Biography

Ficarelli carried out his studies in Stuttgart, Germany, at the State University of Music and Performing Arts, formerly Superior School of Music and Performing Arts in the class of Professor Ingo Goritzki, graduating in 1994 (Orchesterdiplom) and after he did a master degree finishing in 1996. He earned a scholarship from the Vitae Foundation Brazil during his graduation. He also accomplished a Master of Arts with specialization in Music at the University of São Paulo, obtaining his diplom master's degree in 2014. He has finished his doctorate in 2021 writing about Brazilian Music for Oboe at the same institution. During his European stay he participated in several instrumental formations including: Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Bachakademie Stuttgart, Bach Collegium Stuttgart, Symphony Orchestra of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and with the Ulm Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1995/96 season. He was a founding member of the contemporary music group Camerata Aberta. With this group he won the APCA Award (São Paulo Association of Art Critics) in 2010 and 8th Bravo Award of Music in 2012, for the Best Classical Album Espelho d'Água. As a chamber musician and also as a soloist, he had great repercussions on the Brazilian scene. He holds the position of principal oboe of the OSM of Sâo Paulo since 1996. Ficarelli is a professor at the Music Department of the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo since 2002.
