Biography

Since his debut in 2011, with his two hit singles “Jai Jai Shiva Shambhu” and “Aachanye Baigalamma, Taran Sookbir has become one of the most bright and enduring musicians in contemporary devotional music. He has since released two albums: Shiv-Shakti Sargam: Fusion of Energy in 2012, his first devotional hit CD and Shaktishali Devi: The Powerful Goddess in 2017. The groundbreaking style and sound of this devotional singer has led to a revolution among many aspiring devotional artists and has forever changed Bhajan and Kirtan music through his ever-evolving music style. Born in Newark, New Jersey on March 9, 1988, to his Trinidadian parents Gangapersad & Kowsilliah Sookbir, Taran Terence Sookbir was raised a devout Hindu. Although raised under Sanatan Dharma , he later became well versed and prominent in the Madrassi culture as well. With so much ambition running through this young goal-oriented entertainer, it was no surprise that in 2015 Taran was first asked to perform in Trinidad at the Kali Yatra Festival. His hit song “Munni Munni” became known as the Kali Yatra Festival Anthem. Every year since Taran has released a song for the arrival of the festival; “Oh Ganga Amma” in 2016, “Jai Maa Kali” in 2017 and “Bappu Ke Tappu” in 2018. Throughout his music career, Taran has not only grown as an artist but as an entrepreneur and spiritualist.
