Angela Vella Zarb is a Maltese jazz singer, active since 2009. After first contributing backing vocals to local rock bands and lead vocals with a funk-disco band, she shifted her focus to jazz after attending a jazz improvisation workshop in 2014. She currently sings professionally as a soloist on the local jazz circuit, and with gypsy-swing band Swing Nuages; notable performances include the 2016 edition of ‘Teatru Unplugged’ at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta. Since 2016, Angela is also a key member of Blue Tangerine - an international (French/Maltese) Brazilian-contemporary ensemble, with whom she has performed at the Malta Jazz Festival in 2016, 2018 and 2022, and regularly in Paris (FR) at notable venues such as the Sunset-Sunside, Studio de l'Ermitage, and Le 360 Music Factory. With Blue Tangerine she released a full-length album (self-titled) in July 2019, under the label Klarthe Records. In 2020 Angela was invited to perform as part of a jazz trio at the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna. She released her debut album as a soloist alongside her trio in 2022 - a full-length record titled ‘Funny Face’. Angela has also recorded guest vocals for jazz-rock bands The Ranch (‘Cuckoo Island’, 2015) and The Plakard Project (‘Jump the Fence’, 2018). In 2022, Angela was again called to perform at the prestigious Manoel Theatre in Valletta with the Malta Concert Orchestra - a 16-piece swing band directed by Mro. Paul Abela.
