Biography

Alix Apples is a Scottish nu-folk singer-songwriter. Growing up in a family of artists, Alix has worked in film, theatre, and the visual arts - but her true passion has always been making music. Her releases to date showcase much of her younger writing (Them Apples), as well as an exploration into place and purpose throughout her travels abroad (misplaced.) Her latest release, Autumn Yellow, highlights her transition into social commentary and more overtly feminist songwriting. At the age of 14, Alix began to merge music with her work in activism. Between 2012 and 2015, she won numerous awards for songwriting around violence against women, and this subject in particular has become a continuous theme throughout Alix's work. In 2019, she was rewarded the Paolo Nutini Songwriting Scholarship and with it began work on music based solely on this subject. At the same time, Alix formed a band. 'Alix Apples & The Core' consists of Alix (vocals, ukulele), John Whiteford (bass), Kat Elrick (drums), and Sophie Curren (keys, violin). Currently, their work focuses on gender violence and mental health, creating music in the hopes of making these issues more accessible to the wider public. The band are in the process of creating their debut album, 'Say Something' which is set to release in November 2021 and will focus strongly on the theme of violence against women.
