Walter YT, or Walter Young Talent, earned his artist name from the fact that Walter would sing before he could talk. At an early age he played his guitar and sang in church until eventually Sweetbeats Studios found and adopted the ambitious teenager and signed him as a recording artist. Ever since, Walter has spent more hours at the studio than anywhere else, resulting in several singles, music videos and his first studio album that will be released in 2022. The afropop-artist finds inspiration from his background, daily life, the youth around him and what change he would like to see: stories wrapped up in a catchy guise. One of Walter’s aspirations is to give the Ugandan sound an international face. Compared to surrounding countries, Uganda’s music industry is lagging behind. Due to a lack of knowledge and opportunities, and music that does not yet speak to the international community, Uganda’s audience is limited. Walter YT is determined to break through this, put Uganda on the international market and create opportunities for other local artists to compete on an international level.
