Dark, evocative beats engulfed by the boldest raw vocals: this is TOTEK, the genre-defying electronic project of Allysha Joy and Max Dowling. In their own right, Allysha and Max both lay claim to an extensive musical prowess: the former as a member of the internationally-acclaimed nu-soul outfit 30/70, whose stylistic fluidity and exceptional musicianship has gained the band a following in their hometown and across the world. Max’s musical CV is no less significant: as a member of Client Liaison, No Zu and his own project Yeldebert - international tours, festival headlines and ARIA nominations are all part of the package. Totek is a powerful vision all unto itself, woven out of a masterful coming-together of influences: a blend of multiple electronic idioms with a unique soul sensibility; channelled through these two creatively potent individuals. Both artists well versed in production, synthesis and poetry, they push the envelope hard; together conjuring shades of Flying Lotus, Sampha, Little Dragon and Dorian Concept. It’s a unique journey that found these two artists here, together laying ground to the collaborative project, TOTEK.
