Let Me Explain

Biography

Christina's career spans the UK, Europe, Asia and Canada, where she has performed opera, orchestral concerts, chamber music and recitals. She has interpreted many leading opera roles, having performed for opera houses such as The Finnish National Opera, The Royal Opera Covent Garden, Scottish Opera and Musica Viva Hong Kong. Her roles include leading heroines by composer’s such as Handel, Donizetti, Rossini, Puccini, Mozart, Sondheim, Adès and many more. Her debut album ‘... Let Me Explain’ features an all Canadian musical line-up and received generous funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. David Jaeger C. M. wrote her a song cycle for solo virtuoso soprano, set to poems by Christina’s father, Seán Haldane, called The Echo Cycle, which initially led this creative project. The album also features newly reimagined Acadian folksongs, arranged for Christina by Acadian interdisciplinary artist Carl Philippe Gionet, and an extended cantata by Samy Moussa called Ahania’s Lament. Christina delves into the world of jazz for the first time, and concludes the album with two songs by Oscar Peterson, one for which he wrote the poetry and music, a tender love song called ‘Why Think About Tomorrow.’
