Biography

AMAZUMI is raw, chaotic energy ϟ that dances with demons. Nepalese by blood, she hails from the indigenous Yakthung tribe and explores her hybridity through music that can't be tamed. Anyone who has listened to AMAZUMI’s music knows she fearlessly projects every side of her multidimensional artistry. While it is safe to assume that AMAZUMI’s music is based on the foundations of rap, much of her adolescence spent between Nepal and Hong Kong was rooted in Nu Metal, punk, grunge, hardcore and alternative rock. The first sounds of Rage Against the Machine would become the cornerstone of her approach to rap and her equally heavy, energetic live performances. After being introduced to local London cyphers while studying Documentary Filmmaking, she hopped on a train to Belgium with 20 pounds in her pocket. Ghent became her neutral canvas on which to paint her new life as an artist. Far from, but not completely untouched by the cultural pressures of carving a ‘defined’ and ‘honorable’ path that comes with being a Nepali daughter, she began freely crafting her own unique path of music that could never be put in a box. "Hadouken literally means a wave of power – like a Kung Fu fist of energy. And AMAZUMI provides just that! A lyrical windmill kick of pure power...she is at once legit and unique!" - VIBE Asia
