Biography

wev’s sound is a product of 90s video games, the renegade internet, and America's deep house lineage. His tracks have the immediacy, crunch, and punch of UK club music, while his pixelated melodies give qualities of 90s house music. His harmonies are playful, and heavy low ends sit somewhere between Chicago and Croydon. Central to wev’s artistry is a childhood immersed in video games. Hailing from the suburbs of Silicon Valley with no connection to underground dance culture, video games were wev’s creative and musical frontier. The 16bit drums and tapestries of synths in 90’s games led wev to discover a new world in the early corners of the internet: from pirated fabric CDs to YouTube playlists of early 2000s techno. Influenced by time in Japan, wev creates worlds for his fans to get lost in. His tracks are made vibrant with visuals from close friend Nam Mac (@lordstingray), and the dialogue with Japan is not one-sided: he's been tapped for guest mixes by Japan's BlockFM, toured Tokyo's staple clubs, and MixMag Japan ran a rare feature on his music last year. Since debuting in 2018, he's turned out edits supported by Disclosure, been remixed by John Tejada, linked with Kaytranada collaborator Lauren Faith, and captured the attention of fashion designers including a recent sync for Marc Jacob’s Heaven. With releases with the legendary A-Trak and sold out parties in some of NYC's most discerning venues, wev's castles in the sky are getting more crystalline. -Henry Ivry
