TransGlobal Underground are largely credited with being the first project to mix electronic beats with music from around the world. They're a U.K.-based collective, sometimes a live band, sometimes a studio project, sometimes a DJ crew fusing as many different kinds of world music as its members can get their hands on. The project grew out of a mutual love for dance, avant-garde, Arabic, and world music and draws on a variety of listening tastes and cultural backgrounds. Their first single, ‘Temple Head’ went top 40 along with their debut album, Dream of 100 Nations, released in 1994, and they've released 8 albums and a number of compilations and side projects since then. Originally fronted by Natacha Atlas, he lineup has changed regularly over the years and now consists of a shifting membership of around 20 artists, with live shows being anything from 3 to 16 people. Their album for 2020 is 'Walls Have Ears'. www.transglobalunderground.net
