M.Y.I, born Maiinga Mweetwa in 1998 in Zambia, South-Central Africa, is a remarkable Hip-Hop artist whose music is a fusion of contemporary sound and the nostalgic essence of early 2010s hip-hop. M.Y.I's moniker, short for "Messiah's Young Incredible," reflects not only his Christian faith but also his self-belief. It was during his 7th-grade year that the name took root, as he mused, "I thought I'm frickin incredible." Fans and peers have affectionately dubbed him "Yung Urkel" due to a clever reference in his lyrics, where he playfully invites listeners to "call me Steve Urkel." It's a nod to the beloved character from the show "Family Matters." Remarkably, Urkel was initially meant to be a one-episode character but became the show's beloved protagonist due to his undeniable charm and uniqueness. M.Y.I's journey in music began in the 4th grade when he started writing songs. By the 8th grade, he took his first steps into recording. The pivotal moment occurred in 2016 when he released his debut single, marking the beginning of his venture into the world of hip-hop. His debut mixtape, "The Prologue," followed shortly after on September 29, 2017, signifying his arrival on the music scene. In May 2019, he collaborated with the talented artist/producer Menace ZM to create the "Beautiful Ugly EP," further showcasing his versatility and willingness to explore new horizons. M.Y.I continued to make his mark in the industry with the release of the "Labour Ward EP" in June 2022.
