YYC Music Award winner Amy Essen is a christian songwriter, singer & pianist Mom of 4. She combines her music teaching and performance background with a passion for the Bible to create inspirational songs the whole family will enjoy. Growing up as the oldest of 5, Amy was immersed early with many opportunities to play piano, sing, and dance with children. Her influences include Steve Green’s "Hide ‘em in Your Heart" albums, Keith Green’s piano playing and passion, and other timeless albums like "Music Machine" and "Bullfrogs and Butterflies." She aspires to write children’s music that's filled with principles for life as well as musical richness and unique instrumentation. During a family vacation in Drumheller, the "Dinosaur Capital of the world", her first single “Dinosaur Dubstep” was conceived. The next 4 songs, all based on animals from the Bible, came pouring out in just days. And Creature Teachers was born! Teaming up with acclaimed producer and arranger Johnny Summers, Creature Teachers was recorded and produced in Calgary. It includes a whopping 18 musicians, the 22 voice Elevate Kids Choir, and even Amy’s own childrens’ voices. Each of the 14 songs is based on an animal from the Bible and also in a different musical genre.
