Biography

Eljazz Big Band is the creation of Józef Eliasz, a Polish conductor, drummer, jazz music promoter and the director of the international “Bydgoszcz Jazz Festival”. With his award-winning Eljazz Big Band, Eliasz had previously released “In the Rhythm of Chopin“, which achieved a platinum record status. On “After the Catastrophe – Krzysztof Komeda Reimagined”, together with his Eljazz Big Band, Eliasz reintroduced compositions of Krzysztof Komeda, the film music composer and jazz pianist best known for the lullaby sung by Mia Farrow in Roman Polanski’s “Rosemary’s Baby”. Eljazz Big Band serves these classic compositions, critically acclaimed as one of the milestones of European jazz, through fresh arrangements, each with its unique personality conjured up by a different arranger. What connects these new interpretations is Eliasz’s vision of extracting the power and the delicacy of Komeda’s music and molding them into a new sonic shape. The album features the Polish Chamber Orchestra of the National Philharmonic conducted by Eliasz, and a number of renowned soloists, including the legendary American guitarist Mike Stern, of Miles Davis fame. On his latest “Polish Songs”, Eliasz again employs a variety of arrangers and soloists, as well as American vocalists Karen Edwards and Stanley Breckenridge, to introduce some of the finest examples of Polish standards to the global audiences, with the original lyrics translated into English.
