Josephine Stephenson is a French-British composer, arranger and performer. Her music, described as "exquisite" by the Guardian and "music to arrest the ears and stop the heart" by The Times, has been commissioned by the BBC, Radio France, Wigmore Hall, Spitalfields Music and Nonclassical, among others. Performers of her work include the London Sinfonietta, Aurora Orchestra, Tenebrae, the Maîtrise de Radio France, the Quatuor Van Kuijk, tenor Allan Clayton, gambist Liam Byrne, and violinists Eloisa-Fleur Thom and Fiona Monbet. She has collaborated with theatre companies La Raffinerie, L'Éventuel Hérisson Bleu and FellSwoop Theatre, made music for films by Julia Hart and Scott Vickers, and worked as assistant for film composers Dario Marianelli and Benjamin Wallfisch. She regularly collaborates with songwriters and bands (arranging for Daughter, Evergreen, Night Works, NZCA LINES, Shock Machine, singing/playing for Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Ex:Re, Jon Hopkins, Hayden Thorpe, James) as well as the Berlin-based ensemble stargaze (David Bowie Prom in 2016, concerts with Lisa Hannigan in 2018). She is one of the 3 Artistic Directors of Listenpony, a London-based concert series and record label which puts on regular events mixing contemporary classical music with traditional classical music and popular styles.
