Biography

Kalki (born December 16, 1992) is a Norwegian-Tamil rapper, singer, songwriter and record executive based in Oslo, Norway. His debut EP “Waves of Love” is scheduled to be released on summer 2020. 
 Kalki was born in Kristiansund, Norway to Sri Lankan Tamil speaking parents. He spent the first seven years of his life in Averøy, Møre og Romsdal county, before relocating to Oslo with his family. He studied Creative Industries Management at Norwegian Business School BI. As a child he was interested in music and took Mridhangam lessons by his guru Suntharamoorthy Kanesan, and took grades under the Oriental Fine Arts Academy of London (OFAAL). He also took piano lessons for a short period of time. He started writing songs in middle school at the age of 13. Many of his songs were about heartbreaks even though he didn’t have a girlfriend at that time. During his time in high school he was in a hip hop group before he started to pursue a solo career. His musical influences are Khalid, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lauv, The Chainsmokers, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., Chris Brown and Laundry Day. He would listen to their songs to study their conceptual lyrical themes to describe love in his songs. He also adopted the name “Closed Mind”, and released some songs on his SoundCloud account. 
 In April 2020 he announced that he is working on his debut EP titled “Waves of Love” which will be released some time in July-September 2020.
