Biography

'forgive too slow‘ is the debut solo album from Anglo-French avant-garde Electronic Pop artist Julia-Sophie. Her previous solo EPs were praised by The Quietus, Bandcamp Daily, TLOBF, Lauren Laverne, Mary Anne Hobbs, Our Culture, Under the Radar, DMY, Electronic Sound, and many others. Aching and ambitious, ‘forgive too slow’ possesses a primal drive that mirrors the anxiety of its lyrics with sharp synths and danceable production. Influences range from New Wave to Folk Confessional to House to avant-garde 80s Pop. Narratively, the album gives a full-spectrum overview of relationships going in and out of the shadows and of the light. The weird and winding journey to this debut has included experiences as an international major label artist with Little Fish (“I didn’t care enough about being famous to survive all the sh*t that was being thrown at me.”), rediscovering her creativity as a member of Candy Says, motherhood, and, once again, putting her full self into her art as a solo artist. The album is about relationships and what happens when we can’t break out of past patterns. The songs narrate her story of self-destruction, love, and loss. By the end, embers are still burning and there is no telling if Julia-Sophie has found peace, but we do get a sense that she has gotten closer to the core of her being and is finally living authentically.
