MISTER CHILD is a pop rock band from the Greater Boston Area and the official band for The Pony Express: A Musical Adventure! BACKSTORY: Shayan “Shy” Sobhian met Ethan Child an audition for Sweeney Todd at The Company Theatre in Norwell, MA. When Ethan mentioned he played drums, Shy said “I’ve been looking for a drummer.” After both getting cast, they joked that once the show was over they would have to start a band. Meanwhile, Shy had met Austin Lyne at an open mic at Lenny’s Hideaway in Cohasset earlier that year. Austin had already been making a name for himself in the South Shore music scene, laying the groundwork to help start a band in the area. From that same open mic, Shy met Jay Psaros who booked him in the Cave at the Red Lion Inn. Shy knew this was the moment he was waiting for. He called his brother Kamran who had recently moved back to MA from Colorado and said “I’ve found us a band and I’ve already got our first gig.” In roughly 12 hours of rehearsal they put together 2 and half hours of material- a range of classic rock and pop covers as well as a handful of originals that Shy, Austin and Kamran each brought to the table. By their final rehearsal they were still in need of a band name. They turned to Ethan, an English/Film/Drama teacher at Bridgewater Raynham High whose last name happens to be Child. “Do your students call you Mr. Child?” “Yup.” “That’s it then, that’s the band name. Mister Child. It’s perfect.”
