Born in the UK to Maltese parents, Cecilia De Maria started her musical life as a pianist before moving to the harp at the age of ten. She studied at The Purcell School of Music and proceeded to The Royal College of Music for her Bachelor of Music degree and her Master of Performance degree, where she studied with Daphne Boden. During her career, Cecilia De Maria has performed at many prestigious venues, including several Royal Palaces and in venues as varied as 10 Downing Street, King's Place, the Maltese High Commission, the Natural History Museum, St. James' Piccadilly, Tate Modern, the Victoria & Albert Museum and Wigmore Hall. In 2008 Cecilia made her concerto debut at the Barbican with the London School Symphony Orchestra and in the same year was a string finalist in BBC Young Musician of the Year. She has performed with the Arensky Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia and has worked with leading conductors such as Sian Edwards, Bernard Haitink CH KBE, Oliver Knussen CBE, Sir Roger Norrington and John Wilson. A natural performer, Cecilia performs regularly at international venues around the world and is also a sought-after teacher. She is passionate about the positive impact of music education on young people. Cecilia’s television appearances include The BRIT Awards in 2021 with Olivia Rodrigo and The Royal Variety Performance (2014).
