Miyaki aka Michael Whitefield hails from Bear Creek, a historical residence of Irving where the community was built by freed slaves and was one of the first “African-American” sovereign communities. Starting his music career in 2005, Miyaki released his first mixtape called “Gud morning welcome to the World” in 2011. Miyaki’s music is meant to inspire, teach and lead people to honor the past, remember their history and to be a reminder to embrace your personal uniqueness. Bear Creek instilled in Miyaki values that he has carried with him throughout his career, Miyaki had many artists that helped inspire his sound such as Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, UGK, Devin the dude, 2pac, Gill Scott Heron, Biggie Smalls, Saul Williams, Gospel, Michael Jackson, Nas, Eminem, Jay- Z, and DJ Screw and the screw Family.
