Biography

Chris Evans is a French rockabilly artist who has garnered a cult following among enthusiasts of the style in his homeland. Dating from the new millennium back to the early '80s, his deep catalog is comprised primarily of independent releases on his Pin-Up Records label. Born Christian Voron, he was inspired to become a singer after experiencing a performance by rockabilly legend Carl Perkins in 1976. The following year he founded the band Rocky and fashioned himself after rockabilly legends such as Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent. In 1980 he made his full-length solo album debut with Original Rockabilly on the French label Big Beat Records. A four-track EP, Ma Pin-up Est une Grosse Truie (1981), followed on the label. Evans then started a label of his own, Sunrise Records, on which he released a couple singles during the mid-'80s. He subsequently released the albums Historia del Rock Francés (1987) and Chez les Yéyés (1990) on the Spanish label El Cocodril Records. Upon founding another independent label, Pin-Up Records, Evans went about releasing a series of albums including Dans Tous Tes Étas (1993), Le Jukebox des Années 60 (1996), Carte Postale de Memphis (1997), Hommage à Claude François (1998), Les Années Rockabilly (1999), Fan Club, Vol. 1 (1999), Fan Club, Vol. 2 (2001), Fan Club, Vol. 3 (2004), Chris Evans et les Silver Stars (2005), Sur Scène: Johnny Reviens! (2007), Rockabilly & Country (2008), et al. In 2000 some of his best material to date was compiled for release by the Magic Records label on the album Comme un Fou. During the early 2000s he also released albums on the labels Edenways Records (Dansons le Twist & le Madison Avec Chris Evans, 2001; Les Succès d'Elvis Presley, 2002) and Sony Music (Madison Hits, 2003). ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
