Biography

soda came to life at the end of the 1990s, when German rap music was still in its beginning and far from today's "success". Inspired by German underground greatness of the time such as Stieber Twins, Main Concept, Doppelkopf, A16X, RAG or Feinkostparanoia, soda soon also found more and more comfort in the American underground rap scene of those times. Heavily influenced by groups and labels such as Antipop Consortium, Anticon, Sensational, Def Jux, Kool Keith, Project Blowed, and a few more, soda started creating his own version of "rap" that didn't really care too much about of how this music was supposed to sound. The first album that then happend was the unprecedented album called "OK" by soda's first band "Scheiterhaufen". To be honest, it was never ever really about the music being made for anyone else but himself (and some of his closest friends). There was no major "success" (in terms of money or big fame) other than that his album "mehr" made it as "Homegrown Album of the Month" in one of the issues of Juice magazine. Who would have thought other people would like this music? As part of the self-made labels AbgrundRecordz and later postrap, soda keeps pushing his own mix of mostly melancholic heaviness, electronic and/or acoustic beats, paired with often highly personal or abstract lyrics to explore the possibilities of the German language. Today, soda still produces and writes a few lines occasionally, maybe there will be another release some day, maybe not.
