Hailing from the heartland of where it all started for the original "Swampers", Phil Swindle was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He was weaned on music performed by FAME Studios session players and incendiary artists like Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Duane Allman, and Boz Scaggs. Other musical influences include sonic innovators Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Miles, Coltrane, Brubeck, and Donald Fagen. His groundbreaking record ART OF SOUL features an anthology of new original material written, produced, and arranged by Phil. The record showcases Grammy nominee and Georgia Music Hall of Fame vocalist Jimmy Hall.Debuting March 2020 is Phil's latest original release, Wood and Wire, a completely instrumental guitar album. Wood and Wire is a Steely Dan inspired fusion of progressive jazz and blue eyed soul with compelling guitar melody lines. The artistry and fidelity on this record are phenomenal as well as the musicianship. This record is an amalgam of recorded sessions featuring Barry Dunaway, Timmy Lindsey, Ed Richardson, and the late Buzzy Meekins on bass guitar; Derek Hess, Mike Maple, and the legendary Ken Nasta on drums; Barry Rapp on B3 organ and Fender Rhodes; Sam Rodriguez provides stellar percussion. Wood and Wire is produced by Daryl Phennegar who produced Phil's Art of Soul release in 2017. These original compositions are evocative and mesmerizing. Definitely worth a listen if you're a Steely Dan aficionado.
