James Burton is a conductor and composer, best known for his work with choirs and orchestras. He is currently the Boston Symphony Orchestra Choral Director and Conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. He also holds the position of Director of Orchestral Activities and Master Lecturer in Music at Boston University's School of Music. His works have been performed by The Sixteen, the BBC Singers, ORA, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra, and in 2019 at the Tanglewood Festival he premiered a new composition based on The Lost Words by author Robert Macfarlane and painter Jackie Morris.
