Jerónimo Maya, a true genius of the spanish guitar, was born in 1977 into a gypsy family with strong roots in Flamenco. He is the direct descendant of the great tocaor Ramon Montoya. His father, Felipe Maya Losada, professional guitarist and his uncle Ricardo Losada Maya "El Yunque" renowned singer, taught him to live and respect Flamenco. He began his musical career at the early age of five and immediately began to be recognised as a “prodigy child” by the public, the flamenco community and receiving the recognition of great masters such as Sabicas or Paco de Lucía. His way of playing in addition to being virtuosic, overflows with personality and character. His complex harmonies and musical conception are ahead of his time. Jerónimo showed his creative sense very early on by proposing his own interpretations. In 1989, composed a tribute to Sabicas who invited him to play alongside Paco de Lucia and Enrique Morente at Carnegie Hall in New York. Throughout his career he has accompanied many of the best contemporary flamenco singers: Diego El Cigala, Chano Lobato, Esperanza Fernández, Estrella Morente, José el de la Tomasa, and more frequently his uncle "El Yunque", Ginesa Ortega or Paco del Pozo in addition to sharing the line-up with artists such as Paco de Lucia, Camaron De La Isla or Sabicas, with whom he shared a close friendship. His first album Jerónimo Maya ‘Jerónimo’ has been selected as “Best Newcomer Solo Guitar Album” of 2004 at the 'Flamenco Hoy' awards.
