Biography

Ishan Cyapital, born on October 30, 1992, is a versatile artist from Malawi, celebrated for his contributions to reggae, dancehall, and acting. Raised in Balaka township, he draws inspiration from his family, particularly his uncle Tackie T, a pioneer in Malawi's ragga music scene. From a young age, Ishan displayed a passion for entertainment, DJing at family gatherings and showcasing his talents in school talent shows. He embarked on his solo music journey in 2007, influenced by his brothers Teebz and Jeelz, who formed the dancehall duo Teebz & Jeelz. Ishan gained recognition performing at the 2010 Lake of Stars Festival, becoming one of the youngest artists to grace the stage. Alongside his brothers, he formed the group Di Elite, which evolved into a media company led by Ishan. In addition to music, Ishan pursued acting, starring in Malawian soap opera "Issues 265" and UNICEF's "Anansi" series. His latest single, "Big Bwana," inspired by the resilience and hard work of self-made Malawians, pays tribute to their strength and ingenuity. The term "Bwana," meaning boss or master in Chichewa, reflects the song's message of perseverance in the face of obstacles. Produced and arranged by Malawian artist Renegade, the song features an energetic beat and strong kick, encouraging listeners to rise and grind. Ishan penned the lyrics, with mixing and mastering by renowned Malawian producer and sound engineer Sispence.
