Biography

Rodrigo Campello began his musical career in Rio de Janeiro, on the choro movement from late 70’s, playing cavaquinho and 7 strings guitar. At that time performed with great samba artists, as Nelson Cavaquinho, Cartola, Beth Carvalho and João Nogueira, among others. In 1980 began his studies in musical theory, improvisation and electric guitar techniques with Claudio Gabis, who brought to Brazil the Berklee School’s method. At this time he changed his interests from Samba and Choro to MPB, and worked as a musician with fine artists like Joyce, Nana and Danilo Caymmi, João Bosco, Moraes Moreira, among others. Later he studied in various sources, like Arrangements 1,2,3 and 4 with Carlos Almada at Rio Musica School, where he had also a course about Composition Techniques of the 20th Century, with Sergio Benevenuto. This proximity with classical music took him to his friend Paulo Moura’s teacher, Hans Joachim Koellreuter, with whom he studied Analisys about Debussy’s works. At that time, 90’s, he performed live and on studio with other brazillian great artists like Marisa Monte, Lenine, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, becoming a musical producer in a natural way. Since then, he keeps his producer work at his own studio, MiniStereo, where he produced more than 50 titles, among CDs and DVDs. One of his works from 2016, the album “Delirio” from singer Roberta Sa’, was nominee at Latin Grammy for best MPB album and best Record Engineering.
