Gian Groen is a singer and songwriter who was bornin the mid-seventies in the 1970’s in Stellenbosch, South-Africa and currently resides in Grabouw in the Western Cape. He rose to prominence as the founder of the Alternative Afrikaans rock band, Spinnekop. Gian Groen established himself as a solo artist with his releases of ‘’Met die maan gepla’’, ‘’Welkom in Somersburg’’, ‘’Lied van die engele’’ en ‘’Groen Kitaar.’’ As a songwriter Gian has written for the greats and his song ‘’Vier seisoene Kind’’ is credited as one of the most covered songs in Afrikaans music. His latest release ‘’Ballade van ‘n lonely troebadoer,’’ speaks about his isolation as a musician during the global pandemic and has spent two consecutive weeks at nr. 1 on the RSG top 20 chart.
