Poetical Humors

Bach: The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080

Poetical Humors

Biography

A lively curiosity, a keen creative spirit and an attentive ear gave Marianne Muller and Vincent Lhermet the desire to explore early repertoires and have the accordion shed new light on the world of the viola da gamba. This encounter between two instruments of different origins and far removed in time is full of spontaneity, surprise and discovery. They have appeared together in numerous festivals, such as the Festival Radio France de Montpellier-Occitanie, Lille ¨Piano(s) Festival, the Dresden Schütz Musikfest, the Festival d’Ambronay and Bach en Combrailles. Their interest in contemporary repertoire, where the two instruments are able to exploit their most exciting sound potential, has led to the creation of several new works - the first written for these two instruments combined - by composers including Philippe Hersant, Joan Magrané Figuera, Thierry Tidrow and Jorge Torres Saenz. Their first recording Poetical Humors (harmonia mundi, 2018), is a depiction of English melancholy (Dowland, Gibbons, Hume). Les inAttendus have also explored Bach’s Sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord (BWV 1027-1029), as well as exuberant Italian music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries with their program Una follia italiana (Correslli, Frescobaldi, Rognoni, Vivaldi). For their second Harmonia Mundi release, the Art of Fugue BWV 1080, they invite baroque violinist Alice Piérot.
