With a penchant towards creating dark soundscapes and influences varying from punk-rock, metal to the UK underground, Yogesh Kumar, the Bangalore based sound artist behind the moniker Watashi, is treading the grey area between drum n bass, techno and breaks.   Fresh off his debut album “Euthanasia Coaster” released in February, 2022, on Regenerate Music, which was acknowledged for its dark undertone, experimental drum design, and conceptual storytelling. Watashi has also released tracks on international labels like XCPT from Italy and Hyperactivity from France, and also contributed his music to compilations for Indian labels Regenerate Music and Krunk Kulture recently. Auto-Tainment and Pogchamp Hard both tracks released on Regenerate Music were played by Tapefeed live at Fabric London.   Active as a DJ for more than seven years, his sets draw heavily on the tension and eeriness created by atmospheric sounds accompanied by rattling breaks and odd rhythms, transcending it from being just a background score to the dance floor, a formula he followed in his previous radio residency “In Limbo” on boxout.fm for over a year. With his roots firmly going back to 90s and early 2000s punk and metal, Yogesh also plays bass for the grindcore band XrepeatX from Bangalore, underlining his love for experimental music.
