Clara Montocchio is a promising new Viennese singer-songwriter with South African roots. Her deeply metaphorical writing is steeped in personal history, telling stories of connection and yearning (in English and her mother tongue Afrikaans). With a voice that oscillates between warm earthy tones and iridescent clarity, she weaves folk-pop landscapes filled with poetry and emotionally charged improvisation. For her debut solo album „My Vreemde Kind“ („My Strange Child“ in Afrikaans), she turned towards the musical influences of her youth: the American singer-songwriters of Laurel Canyon in the 60s and 70s, as well as South African and European traditional music. Her music is an emotional experience: Writing in her mother tongue Afrikaans for the first time, in producing this album she went on a deeply personal journey, searching for meaning in her family roots as well as exploring universal themes such as loss and love.
