Biography

García-Cano is a Spanish oboist, musicologist and conductor, currently living in Suzhou, China and working as oboe professor at the Soochow University School of Music since 2014. He is the solo oboe of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble and served as guest principal oboe in many orchestras such as Shanghai Opera House, Suzhou Symphony, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Liceu Barcelona Orchestra, Tiroler Festspiele Erl, Orquesta Nacional de España, OSM, OEX and worked under the baton of: Zubin Mehta, Christoph von Dohanyi, Fabio Luisi, Matthias Pintscher, Christoph Eschenbach, David Robertson, Pablo Heras-Casado, David Afhkam, Josep Pons, Josep Vicent, Peter Eotvos, George Benjamin ,Oliver Knussen or Paul Mc Creesh . As soloist, he appeared with the Beijing Symphony, Wuxi Rococo Orchestra, Soochow University, Metamorphose Orchestra Minsk, Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofía Ensemble and Sinfonietta, Orquesta Sinfónica Chamartín, Orquesta Metropolitana de Madrid, Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia under conductors Muhai Tang, Peter Rundel, Eric Whitacre or Silvia Sanz. He premiered the oboe concerti of Huang Ruo, Yao Chen and Alejandro Vivas. Ross Carey, Bernardino Ceratto, Iván Palomares and Robert McClure wrote pieces for him. Served as oboist with Ensemble Recherche and Ensemble Intercontemporain. Former student and assistant (Poland, Europa u Bram project) of Hansjörg Schellenberger for 4 years at Escuela Reina Sofía, was awarded with the Queen's Prize as best student in 2011.
