Biography

Niambi is unlocking a new musical realm, one that is rooted in personal refinement and freedom. After establishing herself as one-half of the neo-soul/hip-hop duo OSHUN, Niambi is jumping headfirst into solo waters for the first time. This next chapter is a reflection of Niambi’s next phase as an artist, a new mother and a woman. Born in Atlanta and raised in the DMV, Niambi grew up watching her parents in Pan-African groups, bands and jazz ensembles. In high school, she learned the technical aspects of music in her music theory classes, which led her to attend The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU. In 2013, Niambi and college mate Thandiwe formed OSHUN. During their tenure, OSHUN received acclaim from outlets like Billboard, Rolling Stone, The FADER, NPR, Paper, and collaborated with artists like Princess Nokia, Jorja Smith & LION BABE. The duo have also performed at Glastonbury, Afropunk and Melt! Festival, and were direct support for Lauryn Hill’s 2020 North American tour. In 2022, OSHUN released their final album, vol. ii. A solo trip to Puerto Rico in 2020 led to Niambi founding My Mother’s House, a spiritual organization honoring ancestral practices of the African Diaspora. The organization is preparing to celebrate its 4th Annual Osun Festival in October in Luquillo. As Niambi embarks on this new path, she hopes to inspire others to be unafraid to take up space.
