Famed for its milk, potatoes, a certain 1980s TV detective and for its association with the Panama Papers, the small island of Jersey in the Channel Islands has a lot going for it, and perhaps the jewel in its electro house crown (yes, it has one) is much respected producer The Hats, aka THaF Records label boss Ian McCoy. Having appeared on nineteen releases in last decade on labels including SHAX TRAX, The Family Records and Arcade Pony amongst others, The Hats has received DJ support from many of the great and the good of EDM, including Punx Soundcheck, Steve Aoki, Maelstrom, Stereo MCs, Larry Tee, David Guetta and Kissy Sell Out, who introduced The Hats to a national audience by spinning his unofficial remix of Lipps Inc’s disco classic Funkytown way back in 2010. That was the year that McCoy launched the THaF Records a label that until 2014 put out an impressive 90 releases, including bassline, electro-house and techno from producers including The Rox (Dim Mak/Crux), Kill Paris (OWSLA), K12 (Funkatech), Circe (BugEyed), Autolaser (Dim Mak), DJ Antention (Brooklyn Fire), ETC! ETC! (Mad Decent/Fools Gold) as well as, of course, The Hats’ own tracks and remixes.
