No, says Kinga Glyk, jazz is not something for nostalgic old men. On the contrary, it is music that electrifies people – and she herself is the best example: “I knew right from the start that I would play the bass guitar, I was in no doubt, because I liked the deep tones. As a child I would stand in front of the radio and pretend to play the bass. My father wasn’t too thrilled when I asked him if he would buy me a bass guitar. He suggested piano, violin or guitar, something better suited to girls. But when I was eleven years old, I was able to convince him. Since then I have played the bass guitar.” Although her father, Irek, had his reservations to start with, he soon began to support his daughter’s career. Kinga started playing in the family band “Glyk P.I.K. Trio”, with her father on the vibraphone and her brother on the drums in Poland. At the age of 18 Kinga produced her first album, “Registration”. Her own band Kinga Glyk Trio began to play concerts: clubs turned into halls, small gigs into festivals such as the Elbjazz Festival, Avignon Jazz Festival, Stuttgart Jazz Open, Dutch Double Bass Festival, the Festival da Jazz in St. Moritz, Maijazz in Stavangar besides concert halls and clubs in Europe. Kinga’s video hit “Eric Clapton: Tears in Heaven” is part of her album “Dreams” with Greg Hutchinson and Nitai Hershkovits feat. Tim Garland. “Feelings” is the latest album feat. Anomalie, Mateus Asato, Bobby Sparks II, Brett Williams, Ruth Waldron.
