Biography

With a gust of brisk air, new Berlin-based duo Hampaat harken a new era of cold wave, spirited energy within the German capital. The international act forged together their own distinct sound by fusing the high-energy worlds of post-punk, darkwave, and electronic music, creating a post-modern slice of neo-gothic, wave music.
Berlin’s reputation for pairing international talents during periods of deep malaise is undeniable. David Bowie and Osterberg, Cave and Bargeld all came together during the height of the Cold War. So it’s of little surprise that the COVID-period has been such a fertile-period for creative collaborative, a prime example of such being Hampaat.
Brought together through their shared, mutual love for bands such as Joy Division, Lebanon Hanover, Slaves and other like-minded dark, cold wave acts, Arthur Zubkov and Aaron Dantas started to make music together in early 2020.
Challenging the Berlin norms is something the band are not afraid of, willing to take the bit between the teeth as they look forward to playing to local crowds. It’s a fearless tenacity that forms the basis of the band’s name, which is Finnish for ‘Teeth’ – the basis of spiritual power and strength, something the band have plenty of.
