Underground rapper SMJ, like many of the greats, began his career recording his first mixtape in his basement. A makeshift studio led to the release of Cookies, an experimental mixtape SMJ used to cultivate his voice as an artist. Originally from Nigeria, SMJ is bringing his experiences to American ears. He has performed at various locations around West Michigan and continues to grow his fan base. As an artist he hopes to bring together a diverse group of individuals and create community amongst listeners. His music speaks to those that work hard and never give up. SMJ’s new work blends his background with these changing times. He explores the versatility of beats and creates a mesmerizing experience for his listeners.
