Biography

Classically trained in an earlier life, Dave was lucky enough to attend a school with a thriving music department, and critically - a small selection of synthesizers and drum machines that were available for experimentation. A love of the sound of electronics was born. Moving on to Glasgow University, Dave stumbled into both the recording studio at the university, and around the same time a where’s-where of the Glasgow club scene of the early-mid 90s including 69, the Sub Club and Slam @ The Arches. These clubs, together with shops such as Rub-a-Dub, Fopp (where Lars aka Funk D'Void was the vinyl buyer) and the records across that scene changed everything that he thought about music. Getting together with Glasgow coursemate Colin McGeoch, they formed Otomi, who then went on to issue two releases of stripped down, soulful broken electronics on Tom Churchill’s Emoticon label, garnering critical acclaim from Carl Craig, Recloose and Chateau Flight. Following on from this Dave released his own solo material on Russ Gabriel’s legendary Ferox imprint. Dave has DJ’d in various locations across Scotland, Ireland, England and Europe, and as well as jazz, pop and rock, his interest in electronic music revolves around a mix of labels including Underground Resistance, Basic Channel, Delsin, Schatrax, Bluespirit, Playhouse, Soma, and the myriad works of the late and much missed Andrew Weatherall.
