Galocantô is a samba group from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was created back in the 2000’s, in the bohemian neighborhood of Lapa, the heart of the city’s best and hottest music spots. Nowadays, Galocantô comes up as one of the most important names in the new generation of samba in Brazil, been appointed as a reference for young musicians. It has also gained recognition from great names in the genre, such as Luiz Carlos da Vila, Beth Carvalho, Zé Luiz and Arlindo Cruz. The group, which is composed by Leo Costinha, Pablo Amaral (in memoriam), Marcelo Correia, Edson Cortes, Lula Matos and Jorge André, has had a busy routine of concerts through its professional trajectory, captivating charms and applause from audiences and music critics all over the country. Since its first album, Fina Batucada (2006), Galocantô has given much effort to present and perform an authorial work, building up a repertoire made of original material and enriched by several influences from the prodigious history of samba – the most Brazilian of all the Brazilian musical genres. Till this day, Galocantô has released three albums: Fina Batucada (2006); Lirismo do Rio (2009); and Pano Verde (20016). Still in 2016, the group recorded a DVD honouring one of the biggest samba artists, releasing Galocantô Canta Luiz Carlos da Vila. In the same year, Galocantô featured in the Samba Social Clube Nova Geração DVD.
