Biography

Far from just another run-of-the-mill rapper, Pimp-T (aka Brockway Biggs) defies the connotations his moniker no doubt incites, instead wowing listeners with his thoughtful rhymes and laudable ideology. Born Troy Neilson and hailing from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, of all places, the rapper's moniker is in fact an acronym ("Power Is Mindful Peace"). Thus, he's no procurer of prostitutes; rather, he's considerably literate, having spent several years as a music journalist for The Brunswickan, where he reviewed nearly 200 albums and interviewed countless underground rap artists. Neilson made the leap in 2000 from journalism, where he was known as Trizoy, to lyricism, where he billed himself as Pimp-T. He appropriately debuted with "Tha Pimp-T Theme," a satirical one-off recording that remarkably became a Top Five nominee for the Best Hip-Hop recording at the 2000 Urban Music Association of Canada (UMAC) Awards. Following this surprising acclaim and the subsequent attention surrounding it, Neilson returned to the studio and began working on more Pimp-T recordings. He somewhat abandoned the satire of his debut in favor of a more conscious, serious approach for what would become his debut album, Power Is Mindful Peace. He released the album on Brockway Entertainment in 2002. Pimp-T has his own website at http://www.pimpt.com. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
