Starkos

Biography

TENT was invented in Giessen, Germany, in late 2004 by Alexander Eß, Malte Graubner, and Benedikt Wahls. They rapidly put together 14 songs that were recorded in Cologne in February 2005. The resulting demo was named ‘the data transfer problem’ and got the band a publishing contract, a couple of shows, and the attention of several record labels. The band’s second demo ‘do something’ was recorded in late 2005 and later released on Hamburg’s RECORDS&ME label. At that point, the band was already busy writing and recording their debut-full length ‘excuso’ that was released in 2007 and received praise for brilliantly capturing the energy of the band’s live performances. The band continued touring behind the album, got national airplay and videos for ‘Do The Robot’ and ‘Lucy’ on MTV. In 2008 TENT relocated to Berlin and recorded their second full length ‘STARKOS’. The recording both confirmed the band’s unique approach to melody and song structures and opened up to broader musical influences, incorporating ideas from country, pop and rock into the groups own brand of fast punk music. After garnering interest from both major and independent record companies ‘STARKOS’ was shelved due to disagreement about its release and the band abandoned touring altogether in 2009. Eß and Wahls continued performing together in various line-ups, releasing “the future looks bright” as UNIMPORTANT PEOPLE in 2011. In 2022 ‘STARKOS’ was remastered and released through government funding.
