Biography

Out of New York, D. Thompson began playing piano at the age of 8. Through school and church he learned to play the saxophone and how to use his voice as an instrument. Melodies and instrumentation are a staple of his music. As a college student he studied audio engineering and found work singing background and playing in bands for other upcoming artists. With a deacon for a father and mother very active in church, the harmonies in his sound are rooted in gospel music. He is influenced by Fred Hammond, The Winans, Marvin Sapp, Kim Burrell and others. Other influences include the New Jack swing style of the 90s and the New York style rap that he grew up with. In addition to that, his mother was a fan of country music playing artists like Lee Greenwood and Ronnie Milsap. This eclectic mixture results in a sound that isn’t strictly Hip Hop or R&B, but as he described ‘lifestyle music’. He is currently working on his debut project.
