The Story Pirates aren’t your typical swashbuckling sailors. We don’t steal gold, pillage villages, or claim land; We’re searching for a different kind of treasure: kids’ wildest, most imaginative stories. Story Pirates is a kid-centric media company and leading arts education advocate founded in 2004. It all started in a school auditorium in Harlem when a ragtag group of improv comedians put on an absurdist sketch comedy show inspired by stories written by kids. Since then, we’ve launched a hit radio show, a top 10 podcast for kids presented by Gimlet Media, a sold-out live tour which performs from coast to coast, an album ("Nothing is Impossible), and two books! We first received national attention in February 2008 when comedian Jon Stewart called the Story Pirates “crazy entertaining” on CNN. We’re often described as “a mix between School House Rock and Monty Python,” and have received widespread critical acclaim. The New York Times called Story Pirates "theatrical treasure," and many others dub it one of the best kids shows around. In the past several years, we have expanded nationwide, with headquarters in New York City and Los Angeles. A vocal proponent of arts education, Story Pirates partners with the non-profit Creative Minds Coalition to present life-changing literacy programs in hundreds of schools around the country.
