Biography

TIN/BAG, the duo of trumpet player Kris Tiner and guitarist Mike Baggetta, presents original music that is spare and ethereal, exploring the quiet spaces between jazz and contemporary composition set alongside lyrical and inventive renderings of folk and country standards. Since 2004 Tiner and Baggetta have toured and recorded extensively in the USA and in Europe. Their 2011 album Bridges, recorded in NYC with the support of a Subito grant from the American Composers Forum, was named as one of the ten best jazz recordings of the year in Time Out New York. In 2015 they released The Stars Would Be Different, a collection of original compositions and country tunes recorded live. Their newest album Evening Hawks is out now on Big Ego Records, and is available on vinyl and digital. “Trumpeter Kris Tiner and guitarist Mike Baggetta explore abstract yet jazz-derived realms of expansive lyricism and liquid melody.” – Time Out New York “Radiant… there’s an open, intensely emotional quality to the duo’s playing… spare, haunting, with hints of modernist avant garde gestures.” – Andy Hamilton, The Wire Magazine “Careful listening is always evident as the two play off of each other, whether shadowing lines or counterbalancing densities and textures of the freely evolving pieces… the two maintain a taut, insightful approach to duet interaction.” – Michael Rosenstein, Cadence Magazine
