Tenor David de Winter received his formative musical training as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, before studying Music at Durham University and Voice at the Royal Academy of Music. He won the Selma D and Leon Fischbach Memorial Award at the 2019 Handel Singing Competition. His musical repertoire spans over 900 years, from the 11th Century to the present day. Primarily known as an interpreter of music from the baroque and renaissance era, David is also a committed performer of contemporary music. On the stage, he has appeared in productions at The Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music (NY), London Handel and Buxton Festivals. In concert he has performed in the UK, Europe and Asia in venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Palau de la Musica, Centre Georges Pompidou & Muziekgebouw Amsterdam. In recital, David has appeared at the Foundling Museum, Henry Wood Hall, The London Handel Festival and 180° Festival in Sofia. His Schütz 350 recital project in 2022 saw him perform all over the UK with The Brook Street Band and Endelienta Baroque. His recordings of Purcell Odes with The King's Consort were nominated for a Gramophone Award in both 2021 & 2022, and he released an album, Adorna, in early 2022 in collaboration with the jazz pianist Jason Rebello. David’s debut solo disc 'Heinrich Schütz – A German in Venice' with The Brook Street Band will be released later in 2023 on First Hand Records. daviddewinter.co.uk
