Killa J (born KJ Harkness) is a Georgia native, hailing from the city of Athens. At the age of seven, Killa J began composing rhymes which allowed the groundwork formation for his later success. In 1999, Killa J relocated to the small town of Martinsville, Virginia. Killa J attended the University of North Carolina A&T SU for one year before transferring to Virginia Tech. After two semesters at Virginia Tech, Killa J decided to drop out of college to pursue music full time. In 2011 he teamed up with popular mixtape DJ’s DJ Ill Will & DJ Rockstar for his debut mixtape “Caviar Dreams” which featured artists such as King Los and JR Writer. In 2012 he worked with DJ Ill Will & DJ Rockstar again to deliver his 2nd mixtape “A1: Artist Of A New Era” which featured artists such as King Los, Crooked I, Rockie Fresh, and Phil Ade. Both projects did extremely well gaining him over 100K streams. He then proceeded to release four installments of his “Hide Ya Beats” mixtape series that also got a lot of traffic.
