Taubert & Rosenhain: Piano Concertos (...

Es Tanzt ein Butzemann

Biography

A piano student of Berger and a composition student of Klein, Taubert became associated with the Berlin Royal Opera when it was under the direction of Mendelssohn. He taught at the Royal Academy of Arts which seems to be his primary musical calling and among his students was Kullak. He composed a great deal of music with opus numbers exceeding two hundred. Many of them were written in a popular and elegant style but they, generally speaking, had no substance. Included in the genres of his works were six operas, music for eight plays, four symphonies, a number of sonatas, et cetera. His "Minnelieder" for piano are still performed. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
