Biography

Jazz and Poetry: Michael Sidi-Levy (b.1966) grew up in France and Sweden and has lived in Israel since 1990. Working today mainly as a psychoanalyst and clinical psychologist in Tel Aviv, he continues to dedicate himself to music, exploring poetry and jazz through composing and writing his own lyrics in Hebrew and French. Throughout the albums, creativity as such seems often to be the object of inquiry. Child Neurosis for instance, pointing at a fundamental link between complaints and wishes, interprets Freud's famous case The Wolf-Man in an atmospheric jazz context. Yom Shavir is about listening to one's own body. In Vague, a wave and a cypress are relating to each other. Facing a Poem traces a soft movement between loneliness and discovery of otherness. The Knock on the Door, a spoken style jazz waltz, is an end of the day reflection about the opportunity to generate new thoughts. And what about the contemplation of a Silk Flower, when in french, silk (soie) sounds like self. Celebrating the words of others Michael Sidi-Levy sets also to music texts written by inspiring Israeli poets like Haim Guri, Israel Eliraz, Agi Mishol, Eli Eliahu, Yehuda Amichai and Robby Schönberger. Featuring musicians are Yuval Cohen on soprano saxofon, Yorai Oron on contrabass, and Eitan Itzcovich on drums. Saxofon player Örjan Hultén joins in on Now Memories, a song about nostalgia versus presence. Artwork and graphics: Elsa Chartin. Recordings and sound mastering: Yaron Aldema.
