Jay Casio born Jason Canepa is an East Bay native who discovered his affinity for music through family. From his father’s love for jam bands; to his mother’s involvement in Hula, and Uncle, Bay Area DJ, Rhymeo Rob’s extensive vinyl collection, Jason was raised in a musically eclectic household. Casio began creating his own sound with any cheap keyboard he could find and a cracked version of Fruity Loops. By 2010, he was producing beats for himself and his cousin Remy from his bedroom, in Oakland, CA. Once Casio found his groove, he and friend-slash-frequent collaborator Justin Loans, started the rap group, RNB Millionaires, in which Jay recorded and produced all beats for their collaborative and solo projects up until 2015. In 2016, his song “Aye” was featured in the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for the independent film, Kicks. In 2017, while working on his solo project, Jaycation, Casio enlisted help from Nanosaur on some production and vocals. This eventually led to their 2019 collaborative album, Wave Goodbye. Jay is a founding member of party/art collective TT6, known for throwing rap-based parties around Oakland in warehouses, basements, and other unconventional spaces. Melodic beats paired with emotionally cheerful, yet melancholic lyrics, and infectious hooks are staples of a Jay Casio track. Making music for fun has always been the mission.
