Taking his first breath in Reading, Berkshire with a mixture of British and Jamaican heritage, The Rhythm Kartel’s earliest music memory is hearing Adam and the Ant’s ‘Ant Music’ and The Tweets ‘The Birdie Song’ on vinyl. At an early age he was obsessed with mastering the guitar and swiftly cemented his musical foundations by playing in various local bands and recording their demos on an old tape 4-track. This led him to join bands of different genres further afield and cutting his teeth on the UK live circuit. The Rhythm Kartel seized the opportunity to tour Europe & USA, on his return to the UK, worked as a session guitarist, learning from producers including Rick St Hilaire (Busta Rhymes, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott etc), Johnny Douglas (George Michael, Tina Turner, Kylie, John Legend etc), Lord Kimo (Asian Dub Foundation, Sean Paul etc), recently playing guitar on 'Nine's Official Number 1 Uk Album 'Crabs in a Bucket'. The Rhythm Kartel’s music moves fluidly through different types of genres yet retains his distinct energetic quirky pop arrangements/melodies/production. His influences range from 50’s Doo-Wop, 70’s Funk, 80’s Hair Metal, 90’s Boom-Bap all the way through to the present; using aspects of Afrobeat and Trap. He recently turned his studio flat into a D.I.Y recording studio: armed with a laptop, upright piano, violin and guitars he has been writing/producing his own songs and has decided to step upfront and vocal them.
