Long-Distance Connections

Lonely Journey

Biography

Łukasz Pawlik was born into a musical family. Both of his parents are concert pianist, his father Włodek Pawlik is a Grammy winner from 2014 and one of the most celebrated jazz musicians in Poland. He received a versatile musical education, having studied in Poland, United States and Germany. His main instruments are piano and cello, but he also plays drums and electric bass. As a composer, he likes to blend different elements into his music, including electronics, ethnic sounds, creating unique ambiences and textures that pave the way for expressive improvisational statements for the musicians performing his music, as well as himself. He has released two albums under his own name: "Lonely Journey" (2016) featuring Mike Stern, Michael "Patches" Stewart, and "Long-Distance Connections" (2021, Summit Records), with Randy Brecker, Tom Kennedy, Gary Novak, Mike Stern, Dave Weckl and some of the leading Polish jazz musicians. He feels an affinity with the music of the 80s as the period of substantial technological advancevement in music as well as spiritually uplifting phenomena across different genres, where the good melody and harmony were a standard. He intends to take chances to expand on the sonic palette available to composers nowadays, merge different styles, at the same time staying faithful to what he values in music the most.
